What is a urinary tract infection
Urinary tract infection includes cystitis or bladder infections as well as kidney infection. All can present with burning sensations during urination, frequency and frequent urge to urinate, cloudy or odorous urine.
How to test for UTI at home?
Each home UTI test strip checks your urine for 4 parameters white blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells, protein and nitrites. One or more of these are usually present during an active UTI , and are a good indicator that you have a urine infection. Always read the instructions before performing the UTI test at home as the correct procedure and timings are very important.
To perform the UTI test at home you simply collect a fresh mid stream urine sample in a clean cup (this means that you start to pass urine, and then collect the urine in the sample cup half way through emptying your bladder. This is to avoid any possible contaminants on the skin affecting the result)
You then dip the test strip into the urine sample for the required time and then lay it flat. The pads on the test strip will change colour if the parameters are detected in the urine sample. Use a timer and read the results for each pad on the urine test strip as specified in the instructions. To read the results you simply compare the colour on the pads to the colour chart at the correct time.
What to do if the ALLTEST UTI test strip is positive?
- A positive result on the urine infection test strip indicates a current urinary tract infection.
- Customers should seek medical advice if the result comes back positive
