In 2017 the UK introduced new health guidelines for max alcohol consumption
This significantly lowered the max recommended drinking levels for both men and women.
Men and women have been advised not to drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week, and to spread their drinking over three days or more days rather than consuming all 14 units in one or two drinking sessions.
Dry days (alcohol-free) every week have also been recommended.
This brings the male drinking level down from previous 21 units.
The guidelines also advise pregnant women to abstain from alcohol completely.
